Well, it’s been a while.
After posting my Beauty and the Beast review on August 24, I felt that this movie review hobby that I had started 2 months prior was becoming more of a chore than it was fun to share my thoughts and opinions with the world. I feel like I needed a break, to discover what it is I intended to do with my movie review blog, and if there’s any changes that should be done, and the big thing that I came up with after two weeks of self – reflection is “I have absolutely no idea.”
Let’s rewind to a few weeks ago, I was posting reviews regularly, and I feel that some were of better quality than others, and that’s going to happen every now and then, I realize that, but then I got a short term employment contract. The amount of ‘free time’ that I had went from 24/7 to about 2-3 hours / day, which was something that I was looking forward to, as I love working and that means I make some money, in which I can spend a portion of it on my favourite pastime – movie going. I will also be starting another full time contract position in a couple of weeks that will bring me to the end of February.
When I started working, I tried to keep up the schedule that I had created for myself on the page “Rankings by Date”, that you might have noticed is no longer available. That is one of the changes that I’ve done to the site that I plan on keeping for now. I set myself a schedule that I thought I could keep up with while working, and 4-5 reviews a week takes some work. The format for my reviews requires a bit of homework on my part.
I enjoy and want to give credit to the directors / writers / actors in the movies, and for that I include links to their IMDB pages, and I mentioned the previous or future work of the directors and writers. I also mention the cinematography and the music if it was something that had caught my attention while watching the movie, and I enjoy informing people of those little tidbits of my very limited movie making process.
I’ve been thinking about changing the format of the actual reviews for some time now. Below is a screen capture of the format of my most recent reviews, and I’m wondering if there’s a better way in which I can write my reviews, and have it less formative, and more conversationalist.
One of the things that I want to keep doing is keeping my reviews Spoiler – Free. I think that it might get readers who haven’t seen the movie, and could potentially help them in deciding if this movie is worth spending their money on seeing in theatres.
One of the things that I am disappointed by with this site so far, is its lack of comments and feedback. I don’t know if people are enjoying the current format, or if they dislike it. People rarely comment, and I appreciate the ones who do, it really helps in making me feel that people are actually reading what I write.
For me, this site has always been about writing down my thoughts and opinions on the movies that I watch, most of them in theatres, and sharing that with others. It was something that I had debated doing for the longest time, and I don’t regret starting it whatsoever.
Some of the changes that is going into effect immediately, are the following:
- Removal of ‘Rankings by Date’ page
- Reviews will no longer have a set schedule, instead will be on a movie by movie basis.
- I will still try to post at least two reviews per week, some weeks it could be more, some could be less depending on my writing speed, and how many movies I watch that week / weekend.
- Big moments coming for reviews such as my MCU movie reviews, which will be released before the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok film on November 3, will be planned ahead, but the release schedule is still unknown at this time.
I have enjoyed writing these reviews and I believe that I will continue to enjoy writing them, I still plan on writing reviews at this point next year.
If you have read this post, and have been reading my older posts, or are new to my page, please let me know if you have any feedback whatsoever, I would greatly appreciate it.
As always, thanks for reading,
